Gombe Stream National Park
Located on the eastern shore of Lake Tanganyika (20 km north of Kigoma), the park is accessible exclusively by boat. Kigoma can be reached from Dar es Salaam by plane or train.
Established in 1968, it is one of Tanzania’s smallest parks (35 km2). The terrain is diverse and steep, ranging from grasslands to dense tropical rainforests. It is world-renowned as the site where Jane Goodall conducted her pioneering research on chimpanzees (specifically the Kasekela community).
The park is renowned for its biodiversity, in fact, in addition to chimpanzees, it is home to numerous species of primates (including baboons and red colobus monkeys), over 200 species of birds, waterbucks, snakes and, occasionally, leopards and hippopotamuses. The lake’s waters are home to around 100 varieties of cichlid fish.
The main activities include trekking with chimpanzees, swimming and snorkelling. We can organise day trips or packages of up to 3 days (2 nights), departing from Kigoma with private boat transfers.

What is the minimum age for chimpanzee trekking in Gombe?
The official minimum age established by TANAPA (Tanzania National Parks) is 15 years old. This regulation is strictly enforced to protect the chimpanzees from human childhood diseases and to ensure visitor safety within the rainforest.
What fitness level is required for the Gombe trekking tour?
A moderate level of fitness is required. The trek takes place in a rainforest with hilly trails, which can be steep or slippery at times, especially during the rainy season. The walks usually last between 2 and 4 hours at a pace suited to the group, led by park rangers.
What should I wear and bring for a safari in Gombe?
We highly recommend wearing and bringing the following items:
- At least 2 liters of water per person – Insect repellent and sunscreen.
- Sturdy hiking boots or running shoes with excellent grip.
- Long pants and high socks (to protect against safari ants).
What is the probability of sighting chimpanzees on a one-day tour?
Sighting probabilities are very high (over 90%), thanks to the incredible work of park trackers who monitor the chimpanzee families from dawn. However, because these are wild animals free in their natural habitat, sightings can never be 100% guaranteed.

Is there a dress code to respect during the City Tour and Ujiji visit?
We recommend modest and respectful clothing that aligns with the local culture. It is best for both men and women to wear clothes covering shoulders and knees, especially when visiting historic markets and Ujiji village, where the local community is predominantly conservative.

Lake Tanganyika Tour
Lake Tanganyika, which laps the shores of Kigoma, is a natural giant and a treasure trove of biodiversity. With a maximum depth of 1,470 metres, it is the second deepest lake on Earth and holds almost a fifth of the world’s fresh water. Its clear waters are home to a unique ecosystem: over 250 species of brightly coloured cichlid fish make it an unmissable destination for lovers of snorkelling and marine biology.

Where do the boat tours depart from, and how long do the lake excursions last?
Our boat tours mainly depart from Kigoma beach (Bangwe Beach or Aqua Beach). The nature excursions range from short 1-hour trips – including at sunset – to 3-hour excursions dedicated to exploring the most remote and unspoilt bays.
What animals can you spot during the excursion on Lake Tanganyika?
During the tour, you’ll be able to observe an extraordinary array of wildlife: hundreds of brightly coloured cichlid fish skimming the water’s surface, majestic African fish eagles and kingfishers, as well as zebras, baboons and green monkeys that are regularly seen on the beaches and in the coastal reserves.
